Two San Antonio roofers have sued for defamation after a USAA insurance adjuster told police damage to a customer’s roof may have been intentional.

The March 29, 2022, complaint indicated Johnston told police that damage to roof shingles on the far Northeast Side house appeared to have been “done intentionally by unknown person.” Neither Moloney nor Cantu’s name appears in the report.USAA reports first annual loss since 1923, the year after the San Antonio company was foundedJohnston made the report 15 days after homeowner Scot Lee had reported the damage to police.

A police officer told Lee it would document the incident. If there was any evidence of the roof being intentionally damaged, Lee would have to get a quote on the cost and a criminal mischief report would be done, the police report added.USAA lays off another 300 employees in latest round of cuts.
