US Secretary of State Antony Blinken urges the reopening of Syria aid crossings blocked by Russia as the United Nations asks for billions in new donations

US Secretary of State Antony Blinken speaks during a virtual meeting with UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres via videoconference from the State Department in Washington, DC, on March 29, 2021.

"How is it possible that we can't find in our hearts the common humanity to actually take meaningful action?" said President Joe Biden's top diplomat, recalling his own two children. Russia is allied with regime leader Bashar al Assad and wielded its veto power last year to oppose other crossings into Syria on the grounds that they violate the Damascus regime's sovereignty.Blinken told the Security Council: "Sovereignty was never intended to ensure the right of any government to starve people, deprive them of life-saving medicine, bomb hospitals or commit any other human rights abuse against citizens.

Syria receives batch of UN vaccines to speed up virus fightDAMASCUS, Syria (AP) — The Syrian government received a batch of 203,000 COVID-19 vaccines Thursday, the health minister said, in a move aimed at speeding up a sluggish inoculation process in the war-torn country. The arrival of the United Nations-secured jabs came as a new wave of infections has overwhelmed medical centers around Syria. The AstraZeneca vaccines will be part of a campaign aiming to vaccinate 20% of the country’s population before the end of the year. Syria's government controls two-thirds of the country, with the rest held by rebels and Kurdish factions. Millions have fled the country or been displaced, and the war has killed some half a million people from the pre-war population of 23 million. I wonder when the US and Israel will deliver vaccines to their 'freedom fighting' proxies aka ISIS and Al Qaeda. 🤔 Are there that many of its citizens left.? Thought Assad had killed most already. ah .. so the countries that have been trying to kill u are sending u shots to take ? .. hmm .. be vewy vewy careful ..
