The National Safety Council says preliminary figures show the number of fatal crashes per 100 million miles driven rose an “alarming” 14% compared with March of 2019.

This photo from video provided by KCBS/KCAL shows the wreckage of a car that crashed at high speed on Balboa Avenue in Newport Beach, Calif., early Tuesday, Sept. 3, 2020. The driver died in the crash; a female passenger was slightly injured. Authorities said the crash was so violent that the car's engine landed 100 yards away from the car.

The National Safety Council said Wednesday that based on preliminary figures from states, the number of fatal crashes per 100 million miles driven rose an “alarming” 14% compared with March of 2019. The increase came even though stay-home orders didn’t start in much of the nation until the middle of March, Kolosh said.

In April, the Governors Highway Safety Association reported that emptier streets may be encouraging drivers to flout traffic safety laws. Many states reported dramatic increases in speeding. In Los Angeles, speeds were up by as much as 30% on some streets, while authorities in Colorado, Indiana, Nebraska and Utah clocked vehicles going over 100 mph, the association said.

Earlier this month, the U.S. government’s National Highway Traffic Safety Administration estimated that traffic deaths fell 1.2% last year to 36,120.

Per million miles. How did the actual number of accidents, injuries and deaths compare.

morgfair Because people are driving like maniacs with less traffic on the road

More lives would be saved if more people would switch to Tesla for the autonomous driving and other proven safety features. If Tesla is affordable avoid buying ice vehicles.

I can only imagine what it's like on I-75 in Florida, where speed limits are regarded as minimums.

Shut down all roads and cars..... 🤦🏻‍♂️

I wonder how many DUI related? Lots of folks seem to think if they don’t have to go to work they can just start drinking after breakfast.

People forgot how to drive

'Despite' or 'because of'?

The country is frightened & I suspect all of us are not as attentive to everything as we were before this pandemic and the economic nightmare it has produced. Many Americans were already experiencing increased anxiety & depression under the cruel, incompetent reign of King trump.

Tesla is the solution

The shock of being forced into repressive, authoritarian government lockdowns has taken a major psychological toll on everyone raised to believe we lived in a free nation.

It’s called FREEDOM! The government can’t tell you to wear a mask, they can’t tell you to obey the speed limit, wear seatbelts, but you definitely should follow POTUS and study drinking of household cleaners to kill COVID 19!

stoned rides grow

Traffic accidents are a pandemic. Tesla has the vaccine.

“Virus restrictions” are eliminated when you go by “per mile” rates. Of course they’re up, we’re not waiting 30 minutes in traffic going 5-10 mphs, we’re going 65-75 for every mile we drive. Nothing alarming about it at all. 🤷🏽‍♂️

... zero deaths in our lifetime they say. Lol, NSCsafety.

Oh No! More FearPorn! smfh

Drag racing

Many of them lost the truth 'accidentally', right?

Well now all the 'they're listing all deaths as Covid because they wanna hurt Trump' folks can take a seat

Can someone help this make sense when we literally all been on house arrest since February. And on top of that we can only leave the house between 8-8 because everything else is closed. I’m not believing this at all 😂😂😂😂
