Educators expect many students to be less prepared because preschool attendance fell over the last year. Socio/economic gaps will be much more evident this fall for all grades. Care must be taken not to pigeonhole, label, or judge children whose families lacked the resources to focus on their academic progress during COVID. As a childcare provider I can tell you that my program prepares a child for kindergarten just fine. Children this age were traditionally in childcare or with a stay at home parent prepandemic, what changed? Less prepared preschoolers? Preschool is basically an extension childcare.
