OWWFY2 focused on areas with a high cluster of critically missing children; the U.S. Department of Justice, or DOJ, defines critically missing children as endangered runaways and those abducted by noncustodial persons.During the operation, authorities were able to recover 123 children from dangerous situations while an additional 77 were found in safe locations, according to law enforcement and child welfare agencies.The DOJ highlighted one case out of Edwardsburg.

In January, a 16-year-old girl was reported missing and was thought to be with a 30-year-old man somewhere in Indiana, according to the DOJ. Authorities said he had posted a picture on social media where he could be seen pointing a firearm at the girl, and that she had either tried to escape several times or wanted to do so.

Because of OWWFY2, marshals were able to find and arrest the man in June and the girl was safely released to child protective services."There are no words to describe the terror felt by missing children, their families, and their communities,” Attorney General Merrick B. Garland said. “I am grateful to the dedicated professionals of the U.S.
