FILE - In this March 3, 2021, file photo, U.S. Army medic Kristen Rogers, of Waxhaw, N.C., holds a vial of the Johnson & Johnson COVID-19 vaccine in North Miami, Fla. With the U.S. pause of the vaccine, authorities are weighing whether to resume the shots the way European regulators decided to -- with warnings of a “very rare” risk.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention is looking to its advisers to help them evaluate the numbers and determine how big the vaccine’s risk really is — and how to balance that risk against the need to vaccinate millions against a virus that’s still infecting tens of thousands of Americans every day.
“The population, the community, needs to be informed of what those risks are so that they can make informed decisions,” said vaccine expert Naor Bar-Zeev of Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health, who will be watching Friday’s debate. That added to U.S. authorities’ urgency in pausing J&J vaccinations so they could tell doctors how to diagnose and treat these rare clots. Several initial patients were treated with heparin before anyone realized that might harm instead of help.
The CDC’s advisers will have to put the rare clot cases into perspective. COVID-19 itself can cause blood clots. So can everyday medications, such as birth control pills.
Not so rare. What if this was your family member?
By the way Pfizer and JohnsonandJohnson are the same company...
When the alternative of mRNA vaccine (Moderna or Pfizer-BioNTech) is considered instead of no vaccine alternative considered by CDC, the Janssen COVID-19 vaccine can be seen to offer NO BENEFIT over the mRNA vaccines and an expected risk of 13 TTS cases per million females 18-49.
CONTAGION
I wonder ... how much was the payoff?
wengsalvacion Ka tense man to ilang pinoy kaya mg buwis ng buhay para sa vaccine nare bfore maperfect✌🏻✌🏻✌🏻✌🏻✌🏻❤️
The comparison of risks of Janssen vaccine vs risks of COVID-19 was a phony analysis. There are 2 alternative vaccines which do not cause CVST with thrombocytopenia or TTS. These are the real alternatives, not the fake alternative of risk for COVID-19 and hospitalization.
Fu
Maybe this vaccine is not for people with medical history, because it works with other thousands people.
Good! I’m going on a trip and would prefer a 1 shot vaxx before said trip
Who in their right mind would get Johnson and Johnson you'd have to be stupid
new reporting: 8 new instances emerged during the pause, making the total 15 out of 8 million doses, a notional rate of about 1 in 500k, higher than the initial 1 in a million est so if the cdc hadn't paused, these new cases would have added more pressure for the cdc to...pause
Good.
Wait until men find out that birth control can cause blood clots too yet women still take it
I mean, the only people who seem to have an issue with the risks of this vaccine are the same ones saying COVID has a 99% survival rate, so they should be fine with getting this vaccine by their own logic.
Just what everyone was waiting for...a US “health panel”
6 people nation wide. 6 friggin people. The J&J vaccine is no more or less dangerous than any of the others.
Nice. I’ll be signing up for it as soon as it’s available in my area again.
Not getting vaccinated for a disease that won’t kill me
I've had cvst thrombosis. Almost killed me and I'm a fit/healthy person. Trust me its deadly, by the grace of God I made a full recovery. I'll take my 99.8% chance in Covid. Extremely suprised they are resuming.
Don’t try to dupe ppl either into thinking they’re getting Moderna or Pfizer and then giving saline as their “2nd dose” in order to get rid of that crap!! I know how y’all are!!
Don't put this in the 5PM news dump.
'despite a very rare risk of blood clots.'
VERY RARE VERY RARE It's not worrisome really
That decision was pretty obvious and clearly scientifically grounded. The question is what measures could be taken to minimize number of side effects like thrombosis even they are very infrequent.
They said “it’s not enough to be a problem so let’s make it a problem” like bro what nah💀💀💀
Day 18 and I’m still alive from it!
Good move. The risk is small enough that the benefits outweigh it.
There were likely more people killed on the way to get their vaccine than died from blood clots, All they did was make people fearful to get vaccinated
