The meetings at the White House come days before the 5% tariffs on all Mexican imports were set to kick in.

A senior administration official told CNBC earlier Wednesday that the talks represented a starting line for negotiations between the two countries, not a finish line. The talks at the White House came days before the 5% tariffs on all Mexican imports were set to kick in. The Trump administration threatens to steadily hike those tariffs up to 25% by October unless Mexico stems the flow of migrants coming to the U.S. southern border illegally. When Trump announced the tariffs in a surprise tweet last Thursday, he said the tariffs would be imposed "until such time as illegal migrants coming through Mexico, and into our Country, STOP." In a White House statement released shortly after the threat, however, Trump said that "If the illegal migration crisis is alleviated through effective actions taken by Mexico, to be determined in our sole discretion and judgment, the Tariffs will be removed.

Tariff time. Need to hurt them so they will finally do something.

Shocker

I agree on the Tariffs. I hate it, but I guess we have to do it. Why does Mexico let these Illegal Immigrants enter Mexico? Mexico knows they are headed to the US and we don't want them. They need to turn them back! Or we need to refuse to buy their products.

Good. Maybe they can also put pressure on Mexico to stop allowing 50,000 illegals to enter the US monthly from MX. There are some good reasons for tariffs. Supporting the erratic policies of a deranged leader is not one of them. Good. We need fair trade and legal immigration.
