Rochester, N.Y. — URMC hosted an inclusive workshop on Saturday for medical students that focused on building their skills. Participants had the opportunity to get hands-on experience in surgery fundamentals and mentorship from University of Rochester Orthopedic surgeons., which aims to eliminate healthcare disparities in all communities by diversifying the physician workforce.

The lead instructor, orthopedic surgeon Rishi Balkissoon, is a former Nth Dimensions scholar who credits the program with helping him build his career. "The objective today is just to try to introduce young, aspiring, potential future physicians who are from unrepresented minority backgrounds as well as females and any other subgroups of our population interested in a career in medicine in a field they have not yet previously seen or experienced," said Balkissoon.
