Rain forecast for Saturday has prompted the cancellation of the 30th anniversary edition of the Carol of Lights festival, which was to have featured live entertainment by choirs and dancers, plus bounce houses, a snow play area and other holiday treats.
“Santa was ready to ring in the holidays in Downtown Campbell and so were all the ponies, the cute petting zoo animals, and everyone else as their most festive selves,” festival organizers posted Friday evening on the downtown website. “Unfortunately, Mother Nature also weighed in with likely showers on Saturday afternoon, so we made the difficult decision to reschedule the Carol of Lights for early next year as a winter-themed fun festival.
Rainy weather prompted a similar postponement back in 1999. A couple of months later, in February 2000, the rescheduled event came back as a Winter Wonderland. The Downtown Campbell group encouraged would-be attendees to turn their attention to events at the historic Ainsley House and Campbell Heritage Theater and to support local fundraisers such as the Making Spirits Bright Fundraiser, scheduled for Dec. 8, and the Campbell Community Toy Program.
