"I felt abandoned by the school I worked so hard for," said senior Andrew Luna."It's just heartbreaking." After working hard and getting through remote learning during the height of the pandemic, 18-year-old Luna thought he would be able to enjoy the rest of his senior year back at Granada Hills Charter High School. However, after winter break, he was notified that he wouldn't be allowed to come back if he wasn't vaccinated against COVID.
"Besides that, it was just the events on school campus, relationships with friends and just a lot I had to give up, essentially," Luna said. "Right before graduation, he's being told that he can't graduate on stage," said Luna's father Tom."That's not right.""Andrew is willing to be tested, there's no reason he can't get tested and then go into school just to graduate," he said."They told us it was because of an uptick in COVID cases that this mandate occurred. But we know that's not the case because they planned this last year.
Absolutely terrible!! What about My Body, My Choice?
schools missing letters on the sign, thats a sign things are going great there
That’s is unnecessary and unfair
Shame on that school. Discriminating against their students and not allowing them to participate in the graduation ceremony they worked hard at for years because of a personal medical decision is absolutely disgusting and shameful.
Why would they take this away from these kids? That’s messed up.
This is wrong. These kinds of anti-kid actions - letting kids go to class to graduate, then publicly dividing them for what should be a joyful ceremony - are why CA lost 250,000 kids enrolled in public schools in the last 2 years alone.
Good
This is ridiculous and downright mean. The vaccine doesn’t prevent transmission so there’s no scientific reason to justify this decision. Asshole adults taking away precious life moments from innocent teenagers
How do you differentiate? They're not vaccinated yet they are allowed to attend class? But they're not allowed to walk graduation? Talk about crazy. Get your story straight, let them walk. You shouldn't have two policies contradictory to one another.
Science folks
This whole Covid-19 thing reminds me of an old track: Shut Up, Be Happy…Ice-T 1989
GranadaHighNews SERIOUSLY?! It doesn’t matter if your vax or not! The vaccination isn’t real! Everyone who took it, is at high risk of getting sick. Let the graduates all go together! Don’t be assholes! Let the teens walk!!
This is really tragic and hard to imagine
Everyone here should just call the school directly and tell that they're being unfair.
Let them walk they have been thru soo much, and they deserve this. This is what they were looking forward to doing.
the vax still spreads the virus and has side effects-makes sense
Harassment, bullying, singling out, sounds like the school is violating their own policies.. I smell a law suit!! Ben Crump anyone
This school is going backwards..Is this just a local decision or district wide?
It's all about power. Apparently, they were allowed to go to class to get the credits they needed to graduate, though.
Let me get the straight you're allowing unvaccinated students to attend school but they can't graduate with their vaccinated classmates yeah that makes sense not really it makes no sense whatsoever
Discrimination.
deliberate and totally unnecessary punishment. it's a complete shame so-called 'adults' made this decision to deprive these kids an important moment of their life. spite fills nothing.
you do the bare minimum for yourself and your community of you stay home
