The sleeping brain is more active if it hears unfamiliar voices rather than familiar ones. The finding suggests that we can process information about our environments even in the depths of sleep.
In either case, the voice repeatedly uttered three first names: two random but common names and the name of the sleeper. The audio recordings were played for four 90-minute periods during the night. There was a 30-minute gap between each audio recording so that it would be easier for people to stay asleep.
If the participant’s brain activity suggested that they were on the verge of waking up, the researchers lowered the volume of the recordings to help them stay asleep. at the University of Oxford. “We see these effects when hospital patients find it very hard to sleep.”
Interesting news but in my case, I have no problem sleeping in a hotel. I prefer a hotel that my house hahahah
That's why I change the alarm tone every now and then. The alarm become part of your dreams if you get too used to it
After a few drinks, it’s all the same.
Wow this is very informative! 👏
A physiological reason why you ignore your partner! An excuse at last.😃
Hi, I am a structural engineer from Iran who have many ideas. I have summarized some of my ideas on my twitter(I suggest look at the idea of generating electricity by gravity). I want to work with companies and investors. Do you want to cooperate?
An unconscious brain sure seems pretty alert.
Strangers = potential threat
From an evolutionary perspective this makes sense as our ancestors would've needed to remain alert for predators.
I'm sleep as a brick of wood on a new hotel room
That makes sense
Because of all the strange voices in the room?
Probably you want to say 'which might help explain why we find it easier...?'
Now do it without voices, but just differing ambient noises (different HVAC systems, traffic noise, etc).
Once you learn to 1) count the intentional loud knocks, 2) register the type of the knocks (item type, distance, how applied, recording or real time), 3) count, 4) the exact time it begins and 5) to remember the sequences in the morning to write down... Recording audio helps.
Makes sense. Stranger danger is instinctive.
