The"test optional" policy at most UC campuses affords privileged, non-disabled students a"second look" in admissions, said Brad Seligman, the Alameda County Superior Court Judge who issued the preliminary injunction in the case of Kawika Smith v. Regents of the University of California on Tuesday. At the same time, he said, a"second look" would be denied to less privileged students and students with disabilities who are unable to access the tests.
""An injunction may interfere with the University's efforts to implement an appropriate and comprehensive admissions policies and its ability to attract and enroll students of diverse backgrounds and experiences," the spokesperson said. The UC system said it is considering further legal action in the case, and pointed to an increase in admission of low-income and first-generation-to-college-students for fall 2020.

I have proof that young Shakespeare wrote a play about how witches were out to crussifide Jesus or the soul of the living entity that said let there be life
SATs are not indicative of anything. I got a 1160 and my husband got a 1590. I made more money. Get rid of them. They measure the ability to function in the world.
Excellent, common sense prevails. A and B students do not necessarily have the same smarts as those who can not dot the i and cross the t’s. A students design the high rise, B students manage it, C students maintain it and a D student owns it. The reality of life.
This is funny, let all the unfortunate victims with certain mental disabilities compete in classes where they get out performed by other students. In other words making students feel inadequate in their classrooms because they maybe aren’t meant to be there.
Stupid....
Well the value of those schools just went down the toilet.
To all those who think this is a good idea who would you rather have operate on you, surgeon who passed an aptitude test in surgery or one who qualified to satisfy a quota?
But off course 🤦♀️ from now on it will solely be based on skin color, gender or income- right? Neutral criteria where none of these matter - bygone...
In the same move the Olympics no longer require time trials to be entered. Simply show up... oh and everyone gets a medal
Keep them stupid and they’ll vote for you
Now they can only look at the color of your skin...
This will create more 4 year pointless degrees and more debt. Now everybody is the same. No more dummies and smarties.
Today in Nigeria CNN are not to be found but in 2013 to 2015 they are everywhere in Nigeria
Has nothing to do with students that have disabilities...it’s so you all can allow illegal immigrants to simply sign up for school. You people have single handily destroyed something that was phenomenal in this country, a wonderful education. History will judge you harshly! dumb
When does this go into effect?
All you need to know to get into college in California now is the ability to count to three. Way to goCalifornia, you are in the drivers seat in dumbing down education in America.
Great does this mean inclusion of any students like the high schools putting emotionally and mentally challenged students in regular classes. So children can have tantrums and outbursts and that ok because it's normal actions for them. This is a disservice to students
Can we also give all participants gold medals too?
So what is the criteria?
This now has to apply to all students or else it's discrimination. You can't admit students based on education or affirmative action. That just leaves money. Who ever can pays the most wins I guess
CNNPolitics Besides, I heard Rich & Infamous people pay someone else to take the exam in their place!
Awesome!
Not a good idea. Where's the objective metric? The SAT/ACT are terrible, but they were supposed to stand in so that the UCs could create a better test.
😂
I understand disabilities but despite that all admissions should be based on abilities of the mind with tests etc
Anything goes. Only raises the bar for certain colleges and lowers the rank of others. Doesn’t matter. For every game, there is a smarter solution. Keep playing.
Soon businesses will not care about your piece of paper.
JohnBarrowman University of California is just a large community college now.
Not sure how a judge can or should have that much power.
