The organization announced on Friday that the final total was $8,940,503 just surpassing its goal of $8,931,798.
Last year, the organization celebrated its 100th anniversary and donations up to $1,000 more than a person’s previous donations were matched.“Our United Way has been helping move families forward for 100 years,” 2021 campaign chair, Jim Mooney, president and CEO of Enginuity, said in a news release. “None of our work would be possible without resources. We are very grateful for the support of our community.
Donations to the United Way support nonprofits throughout the area as well as the organization’s programs. United Way of the Capital Region has a number of programs that focus on access to health care, basic needs, school readiness and workforce development. Thirteen companies/organizations donated more than $100,000 last year and another three companies/organization donated more than $500,000 . Donations from those 16 donors accounted for 51 % of all contributions last year.
