The terms of $25 billion in federal aid prohibit airlines from laying off workers until Oct. 1.
A row of United Airlines passenger planes parked at gates at Denver International Airport in Denver, Colorado.on Wednesday said it is warning about 36,000 frontline employees — more than a third of its staff — about potential job cuts as the coronavirus pandemic continues to roil travel demand. In a memo sent to employees Wednesday, United said just because workers receive a WARN notice it doesn't mean they will definitely be furloughed and it said it will try to exhaust voluntary measures before cutting workers. Some of the workers may be called back to work but that will depend on a return to demand, which some industry executives say could take years.
So much for putting that bailout money to good use 😒
Almost Every company in america is about to lay people off and everyone is spending like they will have jobs to go back to
it's priced in so when they layoff these pol expect the $UAL to PUMP😊
What happened to the bailout they got, oh yeah, they took the money and still fire people. Great negotiators we have in Congress
And the stock market is going to up another 1000 points tomorrow. Unreal.
United is laying off 36,000 or 45% of their front-line workers. Agreed, times are tough now. But during good times, 2014-2019, instead of saving for a rainy day, it spent $8.6B on stock buybacks, half its profit. Oh, and they just got a $5B government bailout.
pump it?
35,999 are Democrats who demand continued shutdowns for coronavirus.
