Uniquely structured deal of Arizona Coyotes brings new NHL franchise to fast growing Utah

Workers added the NHL logo to the Delta Center Thursday, April 18, 2024 following the announcement by the NHL and Jazz owner Ryan Smith that the NHL is coming to Utah . Utah 's professional sports landscape is set to expand as Utah Jazz owners Ryan and Ashley SmithThe team will play at the Delta Center starting fall 2024, which will add to the state's growing quality of life amenities.

This uniquely structured deal came about when the NHL approached Smith to facilitate a resolution for the struggling Arizona Coyotes, allowing their owner to retain the team's name and logo with an option to establish a new expansion team in Arizona within five years after building a suitable new arena.

Franco highlighted Smith's tech background and strong partnerships as possible factors that may have attracted the NHL to Smith and his partners.
