Unfounded threat prompts brief lockdown at San Ysidro High School [Breaking]

Authorities on Tuesday locked down San Ysidro High School in Otay Mesa after a threatening message featuring a gun began circulating online, police and school district officials said.

The lockdown at the campus on Airway Road and Caliente Avenue began around 2 p.m., San Diego police officer Lawanda Fisher said. The lockdown had been lifted as of 3:30 p.m., according to a statement from the Sweetwater Union High School District. “After working closely with our law enforcement partners, and a thorough investigation, San Ysidro High School has moved from a secure campus back into a normal routine,” the district statement said. “We thank our parents and students for reporting this incident in a timely manner. We look forward to continued collaboration with our San Ysidro community to keep our students and staff safe.”

Neither police nor district officials provided details about what prompted the lockdown, but an image circulating online showed what appeared to be a black handgun in an open firearm case with a message written over it in Spanish, “” — or “ready for tomorrow” — with the hashtag #sanysidrohighschool and Tuesday’s date.
