Under Armour’s billionaire founder and CEO, Kevin Plank, steps down after more than 2 decades running the sportswear company

Kevin Plank, who founded Under Armour in 1996 and has served as CEO ever since, is stepping aside.Under Armour’s billionaire founder and CEO Kevin Plank is giving up the top job after more than two decades running the athletic apparel company.

Plank, 47, will become executive chairman of the board and brand chief. He still owns nearly 16% of the stock, which gives him an estimated net worth of $1.8 billion. Plank took the company public in 2005. “Having earned the trust and respect of our teammates, customers and shareholders, Patrik's proven track record of industry experience, straightforward leadership style and championship of our brand and culture makes him uniquely positioned to smartly capitalize on the opportunities in front of us,” Plank said in the statement.
