“This is not your average can of pepper spray,” one doctor said. “It’s being used as a weapon, and we need to treat it as such.”

A counterprotester sprays a Trump supporter with bear mace during a rally on Dec. 12, 2020 in Olympia, Wash.Melissa Lewis, an independent journalist from Oregon, was documenting a far-right rally in Portland last August when she says a man rushed up and sprayed her with bear mace. The chemical seeped into her eyes and inside her ear canal, causing excruciating pain that sent her to the emergency room.

“It creates a cone of the material so you have a good chance to hit the bear,” said Chris Servheen, a Montana-based wildlife biologist who served for 35 years as the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service's national grizzly bear recovery coordinator.Few large-scale studies have been conducted on the health impacts of chemical irritants like pepper spray or tear gas.

Certain states, like New York, regulate the sale of capsaicin-based sprays, permitting it to be sold only in small quantities. New York prosecutors say Robert Summa, of Staten Island, sprayed bear mace in the face of workers during three separate bodega robberies from Dec. 8 to Dec. 31. The officers “had protective gear on and they were able to work through it, but I know there were reports of tingling and odd sensations for hours after the event,” said Salem Police Lt. Trevon Upkes.

Disgusting.

Pepper spray (capsicum) normally is 6-10% strength whereas bear spray is 1-2%.

Why do all of the police look the same as the rioters/insurrectionists? Same gene pool?

Boy, you sure do push a narrative. They didn’t have weapons so we better convince the public about what it isn’t a weapon.

You want weapons of war, get rid of those weak ass peper balls and replace them with pure undiluted capsaicin, that will make bear spray feel like its like warm piss

Anyone using Bear spray to attack someone, should be charged with a weapons charge. Is the sale of this product even regulated?

now do the capitol police shooting and killing an unarmed woman

PoliticalBee In Canada if you have pepper spray on you while you commit a robbery then it’s considered an armed robbery. It is a weapon!

Are these the law abiding people RonJohnsonWI spokeof? Holy hell

Antifa uses chemical irritants at many events where they are counter protesting. The news media goes to great links to delete any video that shows Antifa attacking The right, like what happened at the Charlottesville Saturday rally. Is it wrong for the right to fight back?

It's a chemical weapon terrorists use.

The same shxt that killed officer sicknik?

This feels like it fits here:

On the flip side it's a perfect weapon for women to use during attacks due to the fact it's very effective and doesn't require much strength or skill to use.

This article is 100% false. Bear spray contains capsaicin and other capsaicinoids. The sane exact ingredients in the pepper spray people and police carry.

Wow I mean. Wow. You guys are literally making Fox look reasonable. I mean wow

Yes it is. It’s simply capsaicin that sprays further. Stop lying.

Yes another case of NBC posting a black person front and center of a negative article. This is a disgusting pattern by them. They clearly have an agenda to cast and portray black people as the villain whenever and however they can.

Anything can be used to hurt other people. The people who used bear spray during an insurrection certainly would have found an alternative, possibly much more lethal. The bear spray didn't cause the behavior. Objects don't control people!

American society is a deplorable society.

The preferred weapon of those with a small penis and no $ for a firearm. Murica

They should use bullets instead

Insurrectionists will start claiming it’s their 2nd amendment right to carry bear spray.

It should be used and purchased by someone authorized to use it and has taken a safety course. Yes, this is a deterrent. If those are using it irresponsibly then it needs to have restrictions.

how about firework bombs, laser weapons and arson with gasoline

Try one of these.
