David Beasley said Wednesday at a high-level meeting on Yemen’s humanitarian crisis that the United States, Germany, United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia and other donors stepped up when the World Food Program was running out of money earlier this year and “because of that we averted famine and catastrophe.”
In major pledges, U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken announced an additional $290 million in humanitarian assistance for Yemen and the European Union said it was allocating an additional 119 million euros in humanitarian and development aid. Yemen has been convulsed by civil war since 2014, when Iran-backed Houthi rebels took control of the capital of Sanaa and much of the northern part of the country, forcing the government of President Abed Rabbo Mansour Hadi to flee to the south, then to Saudi Arabia.
“They have no coping capacity,” Beasley said. “They don’t have any money left over to buy anything. It is a heartbreak. It really is.”
If one the 21,000 airstrikes in Yemen has been researched to cost $11,686,000 - that could buy a lot of resources to curtail famine. Turns out we have money to kill people but not keep them alive. WOW.
Not our problem. Soon enough the world will have depleted all our resources and taken advantage of the USA’s generosity. Its all planned and on purpose of course.
So sad …..🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾
Pray for Yemen
I hope richardbranson and jeffbezos can see these starving children from orbit.
Hey beso and Elon step up you can end this the question is will you ? or you will just go for another space joy ride?
Starvation and famine are natural consequences of long lasting wars, in Yemen's case, 8 years. It is naiive to think ordinary citizens can live prosperously in such a situation. You cannot expect to have unbroken eggs under an overthrown nest.
Yea but are they vaccinated?
The president & the food money don't say the main reason 4 this is the US -Euro blockade and their terrorist allies that cause this hunger It is true that their terrorist allies, as I read, are fighting under the banner of Saudi Arabia & ISIS fighting under the banner of the UAE
Women and children always suffer most in conflicts.
Starvation caused by Saudi Arabia and supported by the USA with weapons and intelligence.
It is always the innocent that suffer in a ignorant man’s war.
It's good that the UN is flagging world attention to this. It's bizarre and abhorrent that they aren't fingering the Saudis and Iran for the conditions that caused it.
YEMEN needs help
