Ukraine prepared for more Russian strikes on Monday and warned of the possibility for a new round of evacuations from the capital during a relative lull from the airstrikes on energy facilities and other key infrastructure in recent weeks.

KYIV, Ukraine — Ukraine prepared for more Russian strikes against energy and other key infrastructure Monday in what appears to be a weekly pattern, and warned of possible evacuations from the capital.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy warned late Sunday that Russian troops “are preparing new strikes, and as long as they have missiles, they won’t stop.” He met Monday with senior government officials to discuss what actions to take.NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg insisted Russian President Vladimir Putin was intent on using frost, snow and ice to his advantage, not only on the battleground but against Ukrainian civilians.

For weeks, Russia has been pounding energy facilities around Kyiv and other Ukrainian cities with missile strikes, usually on Mondays at the work week’s beginning, resulting in outages of power and water supplies. Russian President Vladimir Putin “continues trying to make Ukraine a black hole — no light, no electricity, no heating to put the Ukrainians into the darkness and the cold,” said European foreign policy chief Josep Borrell, who is leading a meeting of EU ministers in Bucharest, Romania, to help Ukraine with its humanitarian crisis. “So we have to continue our support providing more material for the Ukrainians to face the winter without electricity.

Ukraine’s presidential office said Monday that at least four civilians were killed and 11 others wounded in the latest Russian attacks. It said intense fighting is continuing in the east, with the Russians shelling Bakhmut and Toretsk.

Kyiv neighborhoods could face evacuation as Russian strikes intensify: Live Ukraine updatesSome of Kyiv's 3 million people might need to be evacuated to places where essential services would be less prone to shutdowns caused by Russia's intensifying missile attacks, Mayor Vitali Klitschko said Monday. What kind of a coward does that to someone else's country? Attacking hospitals & civilians is a genocide! Ukrainians are fighting for their country, for their freedom and dignity! Putin is a criminal! Putin was trained by the KGB and wants to expand Russia! Putin has imperial ambitions and will end up isolated and out of competition!

Rep. McCaul calls for accountability of aid to Ukraine in emphasizing continued support for KyivRepublicans will continue to support Ukraine in its fight against Russia when they take control of the House but will demand accountability from Kyiv rather than simply providing a blank check, Rep. Michael McCaul of Texas said Sunday. We shouldn't be supporting Ukraine . We just got out of these foreign wars only for Biden to start sending billions to the puppet dictatorship in Ukraine. When Russia attacked Ukraine, the entire West stood up, but Erdogan is doing the same to the Kurds, but the West is silent. In other words, does the fact that Turkey is a NATO member give it the right to all kinds of barbarism, massacre and occupation?.. Remember when house members called for accountability to fight Nazis in WWII? Me neither.
