Taxpayers will bear the costs of Covid "for decades" - and an inquiry will not come soon enough to learn lessons from the pandemic, MPs have said.
In the cross-party reports published on Sunday, the PAC said the taxpayer would be exposed to "significant financial risks for decades to come" with the estimated cost of the government's measures having already hit £372bn in May. The report states: "While we acknowledge that there was a need to relax the usual rules surrounding major spending decisions... we are concerned that this has created serious risks that may require managing for years."
The MPs also said they are "concerned that despite spending over £10bn on supplies, the [personal protective equipment] stockpile is not fit for purpose".
Why is this news ...who else would pay for it ...it's the same in every country isn't it ?
Yeah MPs friends and family have pocketed millions and Benefited greatly from the pandemic
And they did it for no reason. Time to get back to normal.
You’ve apparently devolved into stenographers for PACs. Provide context! Compare to other countries! Separate out the obvious corrupt deals as “Not Covid-19, but due to Tory corruption.”
what a shocker 👀💭🤔🤷♂️😷
More tory lies 🙄
the billions in offshore accounts will cover it . See there you go all sorted
Never forget Labour wanted longer lockdowns and more handouts.
It will mainly be due to the cost of rubbish track and trace app and the poor purchasing of rubbish PPE -should be made accountable BorisJohnson government -
Stop it! You gave misleading information after the 2098 crash to help the Tory lie about debt and deficit and need for austerity. Your doing it again. Please learn some basic economics.
Fraudulant loans should be chased down & monies recovered either in cash or siezed proceeds of crime goods.
Surely there are enough civil servants & lawyers to start claiming back monies on uncomplete or unsatisfactory contracts
The bill should be sent to China..
I tell you who should. China should, the cost of covid should be put on China. China is responsible they need to pick up the bill.
Pretty sure everyone with an ounce of sense was well aware of this. Regardless what party was running this country. That eventually our coffers would require refilling. Possibly good reason for all still working to refuse a pay rise. As a nation financially still healthy.
Tories only have one school of economics Austerity
Or just tax amazon, Google etc bit more....
You should define that aspect further by highlighting that those who’s rights and freedoms were stolen, will pay for the misappropriation of funds associated with Covid! TheyHaveBeenScrewedTwiceOver BrexitReality
Correction. We will be paying for BREXIT for years to come.
Errrm is this the most obvious thing I’ve ever heard. We don’t need MPs to tell us this!
Unsurprisingly....
They will bear the cost of Brexit for longer.
Are we surprised…no not all who else would be paying for it…let’s hope all those that have denied the pandemic realise the consequences of their actions prolonging the lockdowns thus causing more of us to pay for it not only with our health (1000s with their lives) but now £££s
Sue China? But we didn't sue Germany so don't suppose we will!
I we guessed that
Taxpayers alwa yr s bear the cost ffg or everything while billionaires & millionaires continue to invest & save millions they can't spend in a lifetime. Wickedness in high places theReasonWeLeft
There were no ‘covid costs’, only lockdown costs. The govt, the stupid and the chattering class scum that backed all this nonsense will be fine though. They won’t bear any cost.
But that's what's suppose to happen isn't it? Or is there a global fund that picks up these bills?
We new that where do the people think it was going to be paid that’s when they’ll all moan but they took the furlough money
Just get a refund from SercoGroup ? £37bn should help..
Cosa Nostra
Add up all the high risk victim people from covid-19 had in saving and how much will be saved from nursing homes and hospitals that house them.
This is not news, anyone with a brain would have realised that 12+ months of furlough for millions, business grants and PPE costs would result in future tax rises ….. so not really a surprise unless your living in cloud cuckoo land.
How is this news? Who did the BBC think would be paying for it?
Only because Boris spaffed billions away.
No shit
Seems about right.
Not to mention the cost of the impact of Brexit
Meanwhile, in the US... Me: $1400 for an HIDA XRay $50 copay for each office visit $2200 for an endoscopy $300+ a month in prescriptions $600 a month for employee health insurance with a $6000 [each] deductible. I'd take their taxes over our bullshit, any day!
