A scarcity of bitumen, funding cuts and bad weather means the UK's pothole problem is set to worsen over the coming months

Soaring inflation and the squeeze on council budgets are set to make a dent in the roads maintenance budget as local leaders tighten spending belts – even though the Autumn Statement in November made no direct mention of a highways funding cut.

The government said the annual grants were enough to fund the repair of 10 million potholes each year, although it is up to individual councils – which receive less than half their money for the repair and maintenance of roads from the government – how they spend it. Yet no sooner had Westminster given them the extra money last year than it reduced its contribution to councils’ roads maintenance budgets by £480m, virtually cancelling 2022’s share of the £2.5bn repair fund.

Now you can all experience, unnecessarily albeit, what it's like driving in this country of Indonesia. Shit roads in all except the most affluent areas. Even then it's not 100% perfect!

Surely you could have found a real picture of a damaged wheel & tyre! This is a terrible photoshop job.

Can they dig up the speed humps and reuse them to fix the potholes?

The council repaired ours a year ago, and they opened up again even worse. It's the repair quality which is poor.

Surely that’s a heavily edited alloy wheel.

I don’t think a lack of bitumen can be blamed!

Never known it so bad where I live.

Just recycle old tires, it's a method that is already in use.

Proposals launched to move MOTs date to every two years | AutocarThe UK government has launched a new consultation to “ensure MOTs remain fit for the future”, which could push back a car's first test to four years after initial registration Ridiculous. Imagine how many miles a car can travel in four years. I dread the Mot, however, at least I know my car is safe No No No High mileage vehicles show concerns at less than 3 yrs, only seen because it's part of the service schedule. Many vehicles do not receiving their annual service after 3 yrs, esp those on 2 yr service intervals, wear and tear increases with age and mileage Absolutely opposed to this. It’s a move to save people money, but will increase accidents that’ll ultimately cost us more with emergency service use, traffic tailbacks, burden on NHS etc. is a dog whistle policy, diverting people from real issues with a minuscule cost saving
