Johnson’s Conservatives won a large majority in the lower chamber, the House of commons, at the Dec. 12 vote and lawmakers there quickly approved the legislation needed to ratify his exit deal with Brussels earlier this month. Members of the Lords voted by 270 to 229 in favour of a change put forward by the pro-EU Liberal Democrats which would give eligible EU citizens in Britain an automatic right to stay after Brexit, rather than having to apply to the government to do so.
Last week, European Parliament Brexit coordinator Guy Verhofstadt said Britain had told him it was looking into the possibility of providing a physical document to EU citizens but Johnson’s spokesman said he was not aware of any plans.
House of Lords are just pooping in their own nest and hastening much needed reform
Parliament will reject this completely.
no tribalism eh?
I don't think you understand how parliament works. With a majority of 80 in the lower house all that will get overturned when it comes back to the commons.
And they'll be many, many more defeats to come... To ToryVoters 'You did this! :(
Notícia boa!
Like before the lords have a majority, but as its liberals again they haven’t learned anything.
The general public voted out the majority of remqiners from HoC, but as there is NO vote on the occupants of the HoL it is still stuffed with wooly headed liberals and anti democracy labour peers. So hardly surprising. The HoC will reject the amendments and send it back. nodeal
Don't worry there always a around things
Such a joke. The house of lord tries to keep the cheap Labour from east Europe while denying to protect the human rights of the people who are holding BNO passports. Yes, Hong Kong made great contributions on the development of British empire. What these Europeans did!
This is funny. Boris wins a majority in the election. Yet, all bills (law) must still be accepted by the 'house of Lords? Then, what the point of a majority?! (Don't be surprised if Boris abolishes the 'house if Lords')
nightcam
Can house of Lords force anything or house of commons just ignore and resend the bill again?
At last, a small step in the right direction
