Health officials say they are looking at 74 hepatitis cases in children across the UK

They say one potential cause of the illness could be adenoviruses, but they haven't ruled out Covid-19 as a cause. Dr Meera Chand, director of clinical and emerging infections at UKHSA, said officials were looking at a wide range of possible factors which could be causing children to be admitted to hospital with liver inflammation.

Other possible explanations being investigated include Covid-19, other infections or an environmental trigger.Adenoviruses are a family of viruses that usually cause a range of mild illnesses such as colds, vomiting and diarrhoea.Dr Chand said parents should supervise good handwashing and hygiene at home, as well as keeping an eye out for possible symptoms.
