LONDON - Britain’s opposition Labour Party was plunged into fresh turmoil over Brexit on Friday as a key ally of leader Jeremy Corbyn attempted to have his deputy leader sacked on the eve of the party’s annual conference.
The chair ruled the motion should be thrown out. Members voted 17 to 10 to overturn that decision but did not reach the two-thirds majority required for it to pass, the officials said. The proposal is likely to go back on the committee’s agenda on Saturday. Corbyn will face pressure from delegates at the conference, which begins on Saturday in the English seaside town of Brighton, to shift towards openly backing remaining in the European Union.
But some in the Labour leader’s team fear the party will lose the support of Brexit backers in places such as northern England, voters who could be crucial in an election that could come before the end of the year.
I am just so disappointed in Labour. The idea that we need to support something that is not in the interests of the worker just to get the vote is Lazy politics. These activists should get out and door knock and extol the benefits of the EU to the worker.
Not a surprise cause the Global elite davos CNBC crowd needs mice to eat. Sorry JoeNBC JoyAnnReid GAMEOVER
He should go.
What a mess.
It’s not because of Brexit, is it? It’s because there’s a growing rift between the leadership and Watson, with Watson undermining the leadership consistently and very publicly.
I know what happens next. He will be assassinated in Mexico after being offered asylum there.
If your journalists actually think it’s got anything to do with Brexit then they should be sacked.
The Communist purge continues..... Racing to the Far-Left isn`t easy....
