LOS ANGELES – UCLA won its Pac-12 home opener Sunday afternoon, using a late 14-5 run to secure a 65-56 victory over Oregon at Pauley Pavilion.
Jaylen Clark and Amari Bailey scored 14 points apiece, Jaime Jaquez Jr. added 12 and Tyger Campbell scored 10 for the Bruins, now 2-0 in the conference and 7-2 overall. Quincy Guerrier had 15 and Will Richardson 13 for Oregon . UCLA struggled through a hard slog of a first half, starting out 8-for-29 from the field and going scoreless for 4:36 toward the end of the half. But Oregon led only 27-21 at halftime. The Bruins, who didn’t make a 3-pointer in the first half, had back-to-back treys by Jaylen Clark and Tyger Campbell at the start of the second half, part of a 12-4 run that put them in front, 33-31.
The Bruins led 44-38 before another scoring drought early in the second half, with a 9-0 Oregon run giving the Ducks a 47-44 lead. David Singleton’s three-pointer with 8:34 left put UCLA back in front, 49-47, and got the crowd back at full volume. A few minutes later, Singleton’s putback of a Jaime Jaquez Jr.
