WSJWhatsNow: Uber wants to buy GrubHub in a deal that would reshape the meal-delivery business

Uber Technologies Inc. is seeking to acquire Grubhub Inc. in an all-stock deal that would unite two of the biggest players in meal delivery at a time when the coronavirus pandemic has sparked a surge in demand for their services.

Uber, which in addition to its flagship ride business operates a big meal-delivery unit known as Uber Eats, earlier this year approached Grubhub with a takeover offer and the companies continue to discuss a possible combination, according to people familiar with the matter.

Failing ride share company looks to buy other company that has good food delivery business in Covid-19 times.

When your company is never going to be profitable What do you do? Over pay for a barely profitable company ... with fee Fed money What could possibly go wrong

Do it.

Welcome, GrUber.

Onwards to Brandwo!

Grubhub / Grubhub_Care tends to take ownership of delivery issues, and even food quality. UberEats I find either blames the delivery driver, or the restaurant, and eschewing responsibility. That's been my experience. I find Grubhub to be superior.

Terrible charges, terrible service, terrible customer service from both of them.

A terrible deal in that it will add further losses to a company already hemorrhaging cash, has no viable solution to AB5 and has swelling costs/losses associated with their insurance structure. ...But don’t worry, Goodwill was written up by more than $2bln in Q1. $UBER

As restaurants are forced to takeout and delivery service only, the fees that third-party providers charge them has come to the forefront:

Lol UberEats got to learn how to charge gift cards like Grubhub before y’all expand your poor discriminating credit card authorization system. You shouldn’t need the full amount in the bank if the gift card covers it. IMO 😉

So Uber can layoff 3500 employees but are trying to take over GrubHub?

Makes sense . . . it is a time for rethinking approach and rebuilding strength.

All before June 1st, Over 50 Americans will file for unemployment, 100 thousands Americans Dead, close to 2 million infected. And fucking summer not even here yet.

Uber uses Zoom to layoff about 3,700 as coronavirus pandemic puts brakes on businessOverall, the 3,700 employees worked in 46 countries; with offices closed due to the pandemic, the decision was made to notify employees via Zoom. Now the employees felt how uber drives got when their account was deactivated for no reason. Sad Hopefully just temporary as they will be needed again when things get better. Crass big time.
