Thomas Ranese's appointment comes on the heels of Uber laying off 400 employees from its global marketing team at the end of July.

At Uber, he will be responsible for marketing all of Uber's products and businesses around the world, and also lead the brand, creative, research, and regional marketing teams. Ranese spent almost 10 years at Google, where he was most recently its VP of global hardware marketing. A spokesman confirmed the news to Business Insider.
