Uber announced the opening of a new Chicago office for its cargo logistics business, Uber Freight

, in what should be the start of what is says is a $200 million annual investment in the ‘Silicon Prairie.’ The Chicago area is an important distribution center in supply chains, and the new office will help support the company’s expansion across the U.S. Fittingly, the on-demand transportation company established its first engineering hub outside the Bay Area for Uber Freight in the The Old Main Post Office in the historic Chicago River area.trying to establish an on-demand logistics platform for moving goods around the country.

The company recently expanded into Europe with an outpost in Amsterdam. Ramping up the logistics business could help Uber’s stock price, which has been fluctuating since going public in May, and is trading 29% below its $42 IPO price at the time of publishing.
