SNAP benefits are meant for food, beverages, and even seeds or plants meant for eating. Most grocery stores accept them in the form of EBT cards, while few restaurants do.“We know that online food delivery can have a meaningful impact in reducing barriers to fresh groceries, especially for the most vulnerable–including people living in food deserts, seniors, and those facing disabilities or transportation barriers,” a statement from the company read.
Benefits are slated to issue their next payment as soon as Oct. 1, with Alaska, North Dakota, Rhode Island, and Vermont kicking off the first round. Meanwhile, states like Alabama, Delaware, Georgia, and Maryland could issue their residents their benefits as late as Oct. 23.Typically, states with higher poverty levels will see a larger number of SNAP benefit recipients. The amount an eligible household receives will vary by state and depends on income levels and state requirements.
For all states except Alaska and Hawaii, an average monthly SNAP benefit for a household of three is $577, with a maximum of $740. An average payment for a household of eight is $1,150, with a maximum of $1,691. Any household larger than eight can be calculated by adding a maximum of $211 per additional person.
