WASHINGTON - The U.S. Supreme Court on Monday handed Republican legislators in Virginia a defeat, leaving in place a ruling that invalidated state electoral districts they drew because they weakened the clout of black voters in violation of the U.S. Constitution.

Virginia Attorney General Mark Herring, a Democrat and the state’s top law enforcement official, opposed the appeal and argued that the Republican legislators were not entitled to act on behalf of the state in the case. “In short, Virginia would rather stop than fight on. One house of its bicameral legislature cannot alone continue the litigation against the will of its partners in the legislative process,” Ginsburg added.

At issue in the Virginia case was the state legislative map drawn by Republicans after the 2010 national census. The new map is already being used.

Republicans have to understand 'The Wall', Eugenics, Segregation, Closed Borders, etc. Should have started before the importation of slavery & braceros. But wait, back then, it was okay! Not going to work now. You're headed towards unrest! Hope someone smart enough realizes that!

gerrydinardo Why do people want to end you?

Another HUGE Trump loss!

Supreme Court hands Democrats a win in Virginia racial gerrymander caseSupreme Court hands Democrats a win in Virginia racial gerrymander case. Court-ordered maps will continue to be used. It's not that it 'Hands Democrats a win', it's that it was gerrymandered to give the Republicans a clear win so now it's an even playing field. Too much winning l, first the double jeopardy case not taken up, now the court ruled gerrymandering maps are upheld. This isn't handed Dems a win, this is handig democracy a win. Gerrymandering needs to be outlawed and all district maps should be independently created. Void of all political interference.

Supreme Court sends gay wedding cake dispute back to state courtsThe Oregon case raises the same issues as the Colorado baker a year ago who refused to provide a custom cake for the wedding of two men. These cases are always weird to me. Like I get the discrimination is wrong but on the other hand, I don't want you making ANYTHING for me if you're a hateful bigot. I can’t believe in this day and age, there are no gay owned bakeries. It'll be interesting to see how this plays out. With the court becoming more conservative (and without knowing how long RBG will remain on it) time seems to be the most influential factor. Not to mention their is a similar case rising through the courts pertaining to a florist.
