Demonstrations to demand an end to stay-at-home measures that have pummelled the U.S. economy spread to Texas on Saturday as the governor at the epicentre of the U.S. coronavirus crisis said his state of New York may finally be past the worst.

New York, which has recorded nearly half the country’s deaths from COVID-19, the respiratory disease caused by the highly infectious virus, on Saturday reported 540 coronavirus-related deaths for April 17, down from 630 a day earlier and the lowest daily tally since April 1.

In neighboring New Jersey, both the number of new hospitalizations and new coronavirus cases were also slightly down from the day before, Governor Phil Murphy said. But he added: “We are not out of the woods, we have not yet plateaued.” The University of Washington’s predictive model, regularly updated and often cited by state public health authorities and White House officials, projected the virus would take 60,308 U.S. lives by Aug. 4, down 12% from a forecast earlier in the week.People sit in a car with an American flag as protesters against the state's extended stay-at-home order to help slow the spread of the coronavirus disease demonstrate at the Capitol building in Austin, Texas, U.S., April 18, 2020.

Earlier in the week, scattered protests erupted in the capitols of Ohio, Minnesota, Michigan and Virginia. The demonstrators mostly flouted the social-distancing rules and did not wear the face masks recommended by public health officials.

Social distancing policy in the Philippines. Everybody is required to wear a face mask. Only 6,000 coronavirus cases and our Govt still thinking of extending the lockdown. COVID19 Meanwhile in the US....

Non è affatto passato. Trump è un inetto, richiamate Obama come riservista.

Because of stupid disinformation and because people arent disciplined enough to listen to medical professionals that know what they are talking about. The more this crap goes on the longer this will go on. It is truly idiotic.

Let's hope things are getting better for NYC.

Didn't 3 polls just come out that said Americans, by a 2 to 1 margin, were more concerned about coming out of the stay at home orders too early than the orders lasting too long?

No, those were politically coordinated 'protests' carried out by a mouth breathing band of a couple hundred white supremacists. Stop it with the fuckery Reutera

Small businesses destroyed by politicians

social distancing is only a temporary measure adopted by the government, everything need come back on track quickly.

Coronavirus Outbreak Eases in New York as U.S. Protesters Push Against RestrictionsThe coronavirus pandemic in America’s hardest-hit state is starting to wane, its governor said, as more U.S. protesters rallied to lift social-distancing restrictions. For your information you dont run the place, lol. You think you own all the deeds & control everything. Well, i am here to tell you that youre mistaken. I offered up my complaint about how this joke of a place is & i was acknowledged & was given what i asked for to punish. Good, thin the herd. It would be nice to know if there is a increase or a spike in infections of all these protestors If a spike or increase then they may be wrong If no spike or no increase in rate of infection then they may be right Would they consider tracking the virus an infringement?

Density No shit !!!! You’ve just now decided to pay attention or what ?!!! Dumbasses !!! Dang it sucks to be !!! Disgraceful journalist !🇺🇸🇺🇸🤣 Here’s something to consider: it took 9 weeks for the first million people to be infected globally, it took 14 days for the second million people to get infected. You do the maths. If this pandemic remains unchecked, more people will die than any other disease in a year.
