- In the summer of 2004, U.S. soldier Greg Walker drove to a checkpoint just outside of Baghdad’s Green Zone with his Kurdish bodyguard, Azaz. When he stepped out of his SUV, three Iraqi guards turned him around at gunpoint.
“Let us through or I’ll kill you all,” Walker recalled his Kurdish bodyguard telling the Iraqi soldiers, who he described as “terrified.”Now retired and living in Portland, Oregon, the 66-year-old former Army Special Forces soldier is among legions of U.S. servicemembers with a deep gratitude and respect for Kurdish fighters they served alongside through the Iraq war and, more recently, conflicts with the Islamic State.
In the face of criticism from both Democrats and his own Republicans, Trump defended the move, saying that it fulfilled a campaign promise to reduce foreign troop presence and asserting that the Kurds were “not angels.”Trump then sent Vice President Michael Pence to Ankara to negotiate a pause in the fighting that the United States said would allow the Kurds to pull back from the area Turkey aimed to take, and which Turkey said achieved the main goal of the assault it launched Oct. 9.
The House of Representatives voted 354 to 60 last week to condemn Trump’s decision to withdraw U.S. forces from northeastern Syria - a rare case of Republicans voting en masse against Trump. A Senate vote on the resolution was blocked, however, by Republican Senator Rand Paul. Those incidents came up often among Kurds who fought alongside a U.S. Army soldier who did several tours in the Middle East.
GiorgosKentas Is this an honor for a superpower? Don't you feel shame specifically to your own military forces and allies? Is America's superpower finally turning off and becoming Turkish? The sacrifices of your own people are forgotten
Oh that's OK then...
America has a long history of selling out the Kurds
Of course they are torn after being forced by previous administrations to protect and work closely with these people but our troops can't be used to carve out land in other's countries for them
'No friends but the mountains.' *Heartbreaking*
The U.S. Deep State likes to perpetuate wars to keep the defense industry employed and making big bucks.
Pkkypg kürtleri temsil etmiyor
... haven’t met a regular recruit that loves war...
Now I understand-there used to getting screwed by us.
Stop
MariaCaspani85 Hey former US soldier, get out of the US and go squat with the Turds.
MariaCaspani85 It is the Kurd's fault that they trusted Americans, they should have known better. As for Americans lamenting the loss of their allies' trust, cry me a river. Pretending to be the good guys now? You're just a bunch of warmongers.
MariaCaspani85 Most certainly who fought with Kurds of course create an unbreakable bond. All brothers in war do and why they are to close to it to see the logic in getting out.
MariaCaspani85 Trump claims he's saving lives in Syria by withdrawing U.S. troops. Tell that to this Kurdish boy's parents and hear what they say.
MariaCaspani85 Remember the 'I Could Stand In the Middle Of Fifth Avenue And Shoot Somebody...' quote. Well Trump is doing it with the Kurds right now.
MariaCaspani85 Normalizing warcrimes shouldn't be the work of journalism. Illegal for foreign military to take up arms in another country w/o permission. US created SDF, used Kurds as cannon fodder.
MariaCaspani85 “violation of trust“ to be punished. 你签署过 在被雇佣的时候!(你自己是拥有拷贝的) 军人,更是宣过誓的!
MariaCaspani85 So many, so quick to react. Let it play out and try to see the goal of the bigger picture. We just don’t know yet how this is going to go.
MariaCaspani85 Maybe everyone missed the ceasefire that was negotiated soon after the withdrawal of troops.
MariaCaspani85 From AutoBots to Kurds, Pentagon has a history of abandoning their allies.
MariaCaspani85 Nothing 'like' about it, it's a betrayal
MariaCaspani85 Hmmm we left Iraq and soldiers get deployed all the time from one area to another. That's OK I am sure there is another waiting somewhere...
MariaCaspani85 Since when can anyone trust any politician? Learn your lesson.
MariaCaspani85 Trump should be tried for War Crimes
MariaCaspani85
MariaCaspani85 Trump keeps American troops in Syria to control the oil wells. He left the Kurdish Allies for Turkish ethnic cleansing.
MariaCaspani85 Mike Doranimated clarified very well, everybody must watch this 👇
MariaCaspani85
MariaCaspani85 So. Where are the UN Peacekeepers? NATO troops? If this was such a huge crisis, why just whine about it? Oh, right. That’s what we do now.
MariaCaspani85 perhaps there is a clue here. 'more than a decade ago' indicates that there has been no resolution just continual fighting, killing, wounding, maiming of troops a high price but for what? for how long, should the USA continue involvement? 20, 30, 50 more years?
MariaCaspani85 This made by pkk/ypg in the southeastern Türkiye...Your hands bloody with theese children's blood...
MariaCaspani85 'Syria retreat' - Nice framing.
MariaCaspani85 'Leaves the hanging' literally! But it's The USA which Trump continues to screw on a day to day basis.
MariaCaspani85 It does. But what does his opinion matter? Listen I love the Kurds and they died with us. But they have a agenda. Stop exploiting soldiers
MariaCaspani85 At first glance, I thought this was a picture of Jacob_Rees_Mogg playing with a dolls house :D
MariaCaspani85
MariaCaspani85 Kind of like we left them back then? To be Kurd is to be betrayed by the United States.
MariaCaspani85 Guess Bush shouldn't have went in back in 2003.
