The U.S. Navy declined to rule out punishing the captain of the aircraft carrier USS Theodore Roosevelt, who wrote a scathing letter to Navy leadership asking for stronger measures to control a coronavirus outbreak onboard

“The fact that he wrote the letter up to his chain of command to express his concerns would absolutely not result in any type of retaliation,” Modly said. The carrier was in the Pacific when the Navy reported its first coronavirus case a week ago. It has since docked at the U.S. Naval Base Guam on the southern end of the American island territory in the western Pacific. An initial group of 1,000 sailors moved from the ship onto the base on Wednesday have been placed in isolation if they test positive for the virus or show flu-like symptoms, or are quarantined if they are well and test negative, the region’s U.S.

“This ship has weapons on it. It has munitions on it... It requires a certain number of people on that ship to maintain the safety and security of the ship,” Modly said. As a U.S. Navy commander, Menoni said, “We have a moral obligation ... to look after our folks because they’re the biggest part of any effective weapon system.”

why punish him?just because that he dare to be honest?

I wonder whom leaked what could be considered top secret information. on the battle ready status of Capital Ship a Nuclear powered Aircraft Carrier with nuclear weapons and top secret equipment!

Punishing for what? Trying to save American soldiers?

tomricks1 oh dear, someone trying to place blame where it belongs. Can't have that. Back to tin cans for him, or desk exile.TaskandPurpose

This is a right decision not to punish captain who is in charge of USS Theodora Roosevelt. This SARS-CoV-2 is coming through while non-symptoms appeared and spread out. Even the infection medical professional could get it.

Lol. Punish them they telling the truth!!!! Follow trump we all love to live in the dream. What a world🙄🌎

Typical reaction of the C o C to bad news they don’t want to hear.

The only way for survive: Keep away from CCP! Keep away from Virus! Which place abandon CCP . Which place CCP Virus is slow down! 抛弃中共,远离病毒!勇做三退。常念法轮大法好 真善忍好 九字真言。这是唯一自救方法

A true Naval Hero who stands tall in front of his crew as compared to the C of C who leads from behind!

USA!USA!USA! 🙄

EsperDoD and realDonaldTrump should be fired for not having a cogent pandemic response protocol ready to go for our armed forces. Also, CO of ship who let sailors/Marines take liberty in a COVID-stricken port.

'Their morals, their code; it....Dropped at the first sign of trouble. They're only as good as the world allows them to be. You'll see- I'll show you. When the chips are down these, uh, civilized people? They'll eat each other. See I'm not a monster, I'm just ahead of the curve.'

The military is an hegemony. The top always looks after itself, and punishes any underlings that criticise them. Fear is their means to power and examples must be made under the name of 'discipline' if their 'infallable' judgement is called into question.

But, Trump’s favorite homicidal Seal gets to party af Mara Lago?

No wonder people don’t want to serve.

He is the Captain of his ship. Responsible for the wellbeing of 4000 personell. In a free country surely he is allowed to state his concerns?

Sure, punish those who do right...kind of typical of the military...

How pathetic?

Idiot nation

Out of my depth here, but isn't he the captain whilst on board? Doesn't he make the calls?

Punishment for something any reasonable leader should do to protect life is outrageous

Sounds like a story you'd hear out of China or North Korea.

realDonaldTrump The world should NOT permit dose infctd 2b dumped in some country or island out of de US. Scumbag Trump doesn't want oders 2enter his country, den why shuld world take infected yanks into theirs.Such a magnificent vessel it can do anythin USNavyEurope USNavyCNO

Give him a medal and more responsibility.

If a captain doesn't stand up to protect his men, then on the battlefield his men would not have enough trust on the leadership of the captain. -- SUN TZU's Father.

This will make an excellent movie on Netflicks

That carrier is a nuclear powered weapon with over 4000 soldiers on board. The navy, not the captain, looks unprepared for a viral pandemic.

Wondering what would be navy's and Trump's reaction if such a letter comes from USS John S. McCain asking for stronger measures to control coronavirus COVID19 outbreak onboard

The 🇺🇸 under Trump has lost respect.

That's how you motivate your staff.

....next option 😠.....

He needs a medal not punished. Total BS

This headline is misleading if you actually read the article.

MURICA!

Watch em change their mind after the public backlash....

It's a SHAME that the ARMED SERVICES are behaving like the Administration!

Hero VS Politician

They better NOT do so! They should be ashamed for letting the situation get this bad! The USN loves scapegoating their captains (especially in 7th Fleet)!

No mention of the admirals who approved the port visit to Vietnam during the height of the Covid-19 outbreak. Seems to be an obvious question, & yet, it's ignored.

A captain who puts his men first and the safety of the naval forces!

So the navy has not ruled out punishing a captain for caring about the people on his ship. Wonderful.
