There’s a good chance flu season could peak much earlier than normal in the U.S. this winter, health officials say.

An early barrage of illness in the South has begun to spread more broadly, and there’s a decent chance flu season could peak much earlier than normal, health officials say.

That virus generally isn’t as dangerous to older people — good news, since most flu hospitalizations and deaths each winter occur in the elderly. However, such viruses can be hard on children and people younger than 50. Health officials tend to consider a flu season to be officially underway when — for at least three weeks in a row — a significant percentage of U.S. doctor’s office visits are due to flulike illnesses. That’s now happened, CDC officials said this week.

Last flu season started off as a mild one but turned out to be the longest in the U.S. in 10 years. It ended with around 49,000 flu-related deaths and 590,000 hospitalizations, according to preliminary estimates.

Flu complications are much worse than vaccine side effects.

Dominant strain this year is B/Victoria which is represented in the vaccine. Antigenic testing showed 10/16 B/Victoria strains tested should be controlled by the vaccine. It’s all there on the CDC web site; please give us facts in reporting, not opinions.

very bad one here in Zurich Switzerland and it started already September..... never seen something like this.... so be safe and get a vacation.. It would be so worthless and sad to loos a life over a flu. The reality is the flue kills each year sooooo many people!!!!

Say the same thing every year

I already had the flu myself and I got it pretty bad.
