US peace envoy in Pakistan seeking end to 17-year Afghan warISLAMABAD (AP) — Washington's peace envoy Zalmay Khalilzad arrived in Pakistan on the last leg of his regional tour aimed at finding a negotiated end to Afghanistan's 17-year war, which will allow American troops to go home, ending Washington's longest military engagement. The U.S. Embassy said on Thursday that Khalilzad will meet with senior Pakistani officials, without elaborating further. Khalilzad has accelerated efforts to end the war in Afghanistan since his appointment. On his previous visits he held talks with the Taliban in the Middle East. He has no plans to travel to the Mideast on this tour, but there are reports he may meet the Taliban during his visit to Pakistan. Hopefully when they get back they can re-open our government. Is Trump looking to get Russia’s foot in the door again? Hope springs eternal. Pulling US troops out perhaps is a good first step?

Taliban attacks kill at least 21 Afghan security forcesThe overnight attacks, also wounding at least 23 others, took place in northern Sar-e-Pul province, said an official. The latest violence comes as peace initiatives move forward on several fronts. I believe its the US military who killed the Afghan security forces. Just creating a reasonable doubt between Taliban and the Afghan forces, so they can stay in Afghanistan and keep looting from the heroin fields.. $1.5 trillion in a year not so bad.
