NEW YORK - Federal prosecutors have filed criminal charges accusing a New York company of exposing the U.S. government and private customers to security risks by illegally importing and selling surveillance and security equipment from China.

Prosecutors said the defendants falsely told customers that Aventura’s products were made in the United States rather than imported, mainly from China, in a scheme that ran from 2006 until this month. Some of those products carried known cybersecurity risks, according to prosecutors. Cabasso and the other people who were arrested were expected to be arraigned in Brooklyn on Thursday. Their lawyers could not immediately be identified. Aventura did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

Donoghue said the government began investigating the alleged scheme after a member of an Air Force security unit saw an image of a Chinese security service badge in software for one device.

Here is the problem, USA cant manufacture proper CCTV cameras, because every time the news broadcasts a crime & they show the video & picture, its B&W and very pixelated. Either we get our shit together or companies will outsource products to other countries that can do it better

Wombat83855175 'Some of those products carried known cybersecurity risks.' The company’s largest customers are U.S. military! WTH!! Throw them in jail and throw away the key!

Anna Eshoo and Zoe Lofgren announced the Online Privacy Act as Congress has struggled to agree on specifics of privacy legislation. That's a good move ! Take away the private data from FANG-companies. Take away the data from leftists in silicon valey !! You can't trust GOOGLE, AMAZON, FACEBOOK and co. If Government oversight is the solution for online Privacy Rights, I am concerned that Silicone Valley is not doing enough to self-regulate. Gov. oversight is never a cost effective business decision.
