- U.S. prosecutors have charged a Chinese professor with fraud for allegedly taking technology from a California company to benefit Huawei, in another shot at the embattled Chinese telecommunications equipment maker.
He pleaded not guilty in U.S. District Court in Brooklyn on Aug. 28 to a charge of conspiring to commit wire fraud. Mao, an associate professor at Xiamen University in China who also became a visiting professor at a Texas university last fall, first gained attention as part of a Texas civil case between Huawei and Silicon Valley startup CNEX Labs Inc.
However, the jury found Huawei was not harmed and did not award any damages. The jury also found Huawei misappropriated a CNEX trade secret, but awarded no damages on that claim, either. “U.S. federal prosecutors are charging forward with CNEX’s allegations” despite the outcome of the civil case, a Huawei spokesman said in a statement, adding that U.S. prosecutors had shown no interest in Huawei’s claims against CNEX.
Huawei says the U.S. government has made a concerted effort to discredit the company and curb its industry leadership. It said none of the accusations against it have been supported with sufficient evidence.
The Trump admin is the only thing preventing the CCP from becoming our new overlords.
Researchers and academics better beware, there is an economic warfare being waged and spilling over into academia and R & D. Geopolitics are affecting international relations and trade.... is this the end of globalisation?
It’s not a “shot at Huawei,” it’s called law enforcement. Duh.
US want to maintain its position at the world leader.
US can’t compete & can’t negotiate. Therefore play dirty. US is overreaching. Going to be nice to watch. US has a rattled president that is unable to show any performance on international stage. Get the popcorn-bigger mess than Venezuela and Iran on its way. More embarrassment.
They steal and copy blatantly. That's why they must be punished
How about this headline 'Another Chinese spy detained'? Your TDS is showing.
Latest shot at Huawei? More like applying the law as written. Not every country is a Third World Banana Republic or a First World Elitist State where the privileged never get charged. The US still charges real people with real crimes. Do try to keep up.
