The University of Minnesota will no longer use the Minneapolis Police Dept. to work security at football games and other large events ... this after the horrific killing of George Floyd.

"Our hearts are broken after watching the appalling video capturing the actions of Minneapolis Police Department officers against George Floyd leading to his tragic death," Gabel wrote."First, I have directed Senior Vice President Brian Burnett to no longer contact the Minneapolis Police Department for additional law enforcement support needed for large events such as football games, concerts, and ceremonies.

"Second, I have directed University Police Chief Matt Clark to no longer use the Minneapolis Police Department when specialized services are needed for University events, such as K-9 Explosive detection units."-- saying,"I do not have the words to fully express my pain and anger and I know that many in our community share those feelings, but also fear for their own safety. This will not stand.

The Univ. WILL have some relationship with the MPD -- but they will"limit our collaboration with the MPD to joint patrols and investigations that directly enhance the safety of our community or that allow us to investigate and apprehend those who put our students, faculty, and staff at risk." Gabel added ..."I write to you to express our overwhelming sadness, and our demands for accountability and justice. Our Campuses and facilities are a part of the communities in which they reside. University students, staff, and faculty are day-to-day participants in the life of every community in this state, and we must act when our neighbors are harmed and in pain."“Let our voices be heard and please take care.

Then they won't be dialing 911 for any police emergency either ....right?! So the 'students' can destroy any part of the school they want without fear. How nice for you.

Probably a good idea. Let them police themselves.

BiasedGirl i thought this was Barry scene

Hahaha

This is smart to put out there... they ain’t trying to see there stadiums go up in flames.

BiasedGirl Well this is a sane reaction to poor actions of four officers, all who have been fired and will be charged soon.

Good luck with that

Lmao that’s 3 months from now so nice pr move

Complements of Derek Chauvin

oof

Good moves

So who’s gon do it now lol? Those yellow jacket securities who r usually minimum wage workers who look super out of shape? Or university police force who usually r less competent than a city PD? Lol.

Press F for people's wallets, coolers, and other tailgate items.

I’d like to see how that works out for them.

Seems like a safe plan.

justinmooretv .....UNTIL THE SEASON STARTS.😐

Good

Bravo

Why not just advertise that you can come to a game, tear the place apart and not worry about law enforcement. Maybe sometimes you should just keep things quiet

It’s great to see influential businesses taking action against the bull shit Americans go through with the police.

Thank you U of Minnesota!!!!!

So they'll use state troopers like other colleges do.......

So will they use private security? Aren’t ex-cops and ex-military personnel the ones that make up private security forces?

Oh no, who’s going to surround their coaches now? That’s a farce, right there. 😂

This sounds like a dumb reaction but sure

👍🏾👍🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾

That's good news for stickup artists.
