TxDOT promises 'summer relief' with fewer weekend closures at 1604/I-10 interchange

TxDOT released its summer schedule on Tuesday and says it's shifting around construction to allow for minimal or no weekend closures at the 1604/I-10 interchange through Labor Day.SAN ANTONIO - Some summer relief. That's how the Texas Department of Transportation is describing its decision to cut back on weekend closures at the 1604 and I-10 interchange on the Northwest Side over the next couple months.

For months now, we've been bringing you stories of business owners hit hard by the Loop 1604 North expansion project. Late last month, The Rustic abruptly closed its location at The Rim. As the sign on the front door put it, "Due to the ongoing freeway construction affecting access during nights and weekends, we have made the decision to close our current location."

"Some clients that live across the street, just across Vance Jackson in apartments just five minutes away, they take two hours to get here," Martin explained. "They'll either come on weekdays, or they'll wait for a better weekend. Or they'll just redirect their traffic to another salon, which does affect business.""Clients try to avoid the area," said Krislyn Tovar of Salon Martin.
