Then, in February of this year, she suffered a setback with a broken left ankle. “That was like adding insult to injury,” Allen said. She had an entire season of races scheduled, and suddenly, that was gone again.went well, and she ended up winning the Cortina 50K in June. She was just happy to be racing, but with the rest of her schedule mostly gone because of her injury, she had a crazy idea.
Allen showed up a week early and spent the week adventuring around Tromso. One of the spots on their prerace list was the ridge she fell from. After staring down the place she had thought about for two years, she felt ready to conquer the race, though fear still crept in. She lined up with Par, and they started the race taking in the architecture they would see when they came back into town for the finish.
Allen and Par were not racing to place, so they took it slow. Volunteers, who are always stationed in the mountains in case of emergency, remembered her from two years prior and greeted her with high fives.
