Two people were stabbed and a suspect was shot at a Target store in downtown Los Angeles on Tuesday, Nov. 15, authorities said.
Around 6 p.m., a 25-year-old man entered the store at Figueroa and Seventh Streets and located knives that appeared to be Target merchandise, according to Los Angeles Police Department spokesperson Officer Luis Garcia. He then threatened a 7-year-old boy’s life and stabbed him in the shoulder; a 25-year-old woman attempted to intervene, but was stabbed in the chest, Garcia said. Shortly after, a Target security officer shot the man in his side, Garcia added.
The suspect, who was in police custody at a hospital, was in critical condition Tuesday evening. The stabbing victims were also in critical condition, Garcia said. It was not immediately clear whether the woman and the boy were related. A bystander, also a 25-year-old woman, was punched in the chest by the man when she attempted to help the two stabbing victims, Garcia added. She was not transported to the hospital.
