Police in Newark have yet to issue a statement on the situation, but the source told the news outlet that one officer was struck in the neck and the other in the leg. Both are in stable condition at a local hospital, this source added. Gov. Phil Murphy said in a tweet Tuesday that he is"aware of and closely monitoring an unfolding situation in Newark." He also promised to give law enforcement all necessary support.I am in touch with local authorities and the State is providing resources as requested. We will continue to support local law enforcement and ensure that all residents are safe.
The residential area where the officers were shot is currently on lockdown and FBI, SWAT, and uniformed officers were on the scene, per a report from CBS New York.Local officials say they will provide an update on the situation this evening.
