Two people died after their car smashed into a concrete wall near an Interstate 805 off-ramp in Chula Vista Saturday morning, police said.
The collision was reported shortly after 9:50 a.m. at the intersection of East Palomar Street and I-805, Chula Vista police Officer Ryan Culver said. Witnesses told officers that a Nissan Rogue exited the freeway at high speed, continued through the intersection and struck the steel-and-concrete wall.
Several people in the area tried to provide first aid to the driver until paramedics arrived, however, the man died before he could be taken to a hospital, Culver said. The car’s passenger also died.Police are not releasing names or ages of the victims until family members have been notified. The cause of the crash remains under investigation. Anyone who saw the collision was asked to call the department’s traffic bureau at 417-9436.
