Two motorists were arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence after a multi-vehicle crash on Interstate 5 left a pedestrian dead near downtown San Diego over the weekend, California Highway Patrol officials said Thursday. The chain-reaction collision began Saturday about 10:10 p.m. when a 20-year-old man in a Honda Civic crashed on south I-5 north of J Street, CHP Officer Salvador Castro said.
The force of the crash propelled the young man into the freeway where he was hit by a silver Honda Accord, Castro said. Moments later, a Ford Bronco struck the Ford Escape. The 20-year-old man died before he could be taken to a hospital, Castro said. The man's name will not be released until his family has been notified.
