The social media giant is pausing the process until it finds a way to memorialize the accounts of users who have died.

Twitter announced Wednesday that it will pause its plan to purge inactive accounts amid fears that deceased users would have their pages erased.

“We’ve heard you on the impact that this would have on the accounts of the deceased,” the company added. “This was a miss on our part. We will not be removing any inactive accounts until we create a new way for people to memorialize accounts.”

Twitter will halt its plan to delete inactive accounts - Business InsiderTwitter backs off on a plan to give away unused old accounts after people complain that it would mean erasing their dead loved ones from the internet A good story to cover you tracks and keep the information gained . Im not quite sure how I feel about this. I feel for the loved ones who want to retain that piece, but I also feel it's scary that we hold on to social media that strongly. .jack Twitter Here’s an AmazingIdea: instead of “giving them away” status them in a way that can be customized based on the loved ones and/or estate wishes. That way these accounts can be excluded in the backend analytics & algorithms - it is primarily a backend concern.
