"We believe political message reach should be earned, not bought," C.E.O. Jack Dorsey said.
Twitter C.E.O. Jack Dorsey announced on Wednesday that his company will stop accepting paid political advertisements, unlike rival Facebook, which has attracted scrutiny for not fact-checking campaign ads. "We believe political message reach should be earned, not bought," Dorsey wrote on Twitter. "Why? A few reasons. A political message earns reach when people decide to follow an account or retweet. Paying for reach removes that decision, forcing highly optimized and targeted political messages on people. We believe this decision should not be compromised by money.
Dorsey said the company will announce a "final policy" on political ads by Nov. 15, including plans for "a few exceptions," including ads that promote voter registration. "We’ll start enforcing our new policy on 11/22 to provide current advertisers a notice period before this change goes into effect," he said.
Rival? Nah. Twitter's just won that race.
This is great but I worry that much of today’s political messaging is more sophisticated than this, with politicians’ lies still likely to be widely shared through skilled misuse of social media.
So happy that Twitter is taking this action. Facebook we see you.
This is great 👍
I still see them.
It’s a good start
That's what twitter should do - remain neutral Jack 👍 psst nobody tell him that he will be looked upon as a founder.. You'll make him unnecessarily nervous lol.. There were other minor platforms but his will likely be the best..
THR joining in the propaganda, as no surprise. Twitter heavily biases public opinion for the Democrat Party, even censoring speech, and Ingsoc Jack knows it.
Smart move
Thanks for that bro
Hard to believe it’s this simple
But they will continue to push the political hashtags that they prefer. So basically, nothing changes. got it.
