Tunisia holds second round of elections for parliament, with voters preoccupied by economic woes and turnout seen as crucial in politically divided nation

Analysts predict low turnout again among Tunisia's 7.8 million eligible voters for the second round as major parties including Saied's arch-rivals

Saied sacked the government and froze parliament before dissolving it and changing the constitution, abolishing the hybrid parliamentary system that had been in place since 2014."I don't plan to vote," said Ridha, a carpenter in the capital Tunis who declined to provide his surname. "I can't trust anyone anymore."

Global ratings agency Moody's on Saturday downgraded Tunisia's credit rating to Caa2, citing "the absence of comprehensive financing to date to meet the government's large funding needs"."Along with soaring prices, we're seeing shortages and the president is pathetically blaming 'speculators, traitors and saboteurs'," he said.

US inflation and consumer spending cooled in DecemberAn inflation gauge closed watched by the Federal Reserve eased further in December, and consumer spending fell — evidence the Fed’s interest rate hikes are slowing the economy. Prices rose 5% from a year earlier, down from the 5.5% increase in November. 'the Fed'? 'the economy'? 'the 5.5% increase'? You really ought to get an editor who know the AP style book. 'THE Fed!?' This type of language is giving me ptsd. Of course consumer spending fell. Choosing between food, gas or utilities tends to do that. Especially when wages aren’t matching inflation.

Inflation gauge closely watched by the Fed cooled in December, but prices remain highInflation showed signs of cooling last month, a welcoming sign for the Federal Reserve as it tries to cool consumer prices with higher interest rates. I wonder where the hell they get this data. Very time I go to the grocery store I pay more, NOT LESS. Eggs, Milk, Meats, fresh fruits & veggies. I have not seen one thing cool down at the store. You know the stuff you need to live on.
