Spanish Fort scored 4 seventh inning runs that included a two-out, 2-run homer in a 6-5 victory over Baldwin County to earn the Class 6A Area 2 title on Tuesday in AHSAA softball action.After two Spanish Fort walks and a strikeout for the second out in the seventh inning, Haley Hart’s 2-run single closed the margin to 5-4.
That’s when Kennedy Sevcik hit the first pitch she saw over the center field fence for the thrilling win. Sevcik led the sixth-ranked Toros with 3 hits, 2 RBIs and 2 runs. Ella Grace Nobles had a double and RBI while Kenzie Boullon and Raeleigh Hocker had hits. Mallarie Beagle got the win in the circle, pitching 5 2/3 innings while surrendering 3 hits with an earned run and striking out 7.The winner and runnerup in each of 16 areas in Class 1A-6A and eight areas in Class 7A advance to one of four regionals starting on May 6.: Jamie Hughley 5-7, 3 RBIs; Marti McCluskey 6-9, 3 RBIs; Nichole Dockery 5-12, 4 RBIs; Mackenzie Harper 6 IP, 2 saves, 11 strikeouts; Emily Rice 3 IP, 6 strikeouots.
