The president’s comments, made in a tweet, comes less than 24-hours after the announcement that liberal stalwart Ruth Bader Ginsberg lost her long battle with cancer, dying Friday after expressing a “fervent wish,” that the next president would nominate her successor.

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell said Friday that “President Trump's nominee will receive a vote on the floor of the United States Senate," but did not say specifically whether that vote would be before the Nov. 3 election in 44 days or after.told them to “keep their powder dry” and not commit to a position on whether they should give a nominee a vote.

Two Republicans - Susan Collins of Maine and Lisa Murkowski of Alaska - have said they support allowing Joe Biden to name the next justice if he were to win in November, according to theIn 2016, McConnell refused to give a hearing to Merrick Garland, President Obama’s candidate to replace a Supreme Court vacancy created by the death of Antonin Scalia, arguing that a lame-duck president should not be able to appoint a Supreme Court justice.
